Edgar Kaufmann and his father Morris built this addition after they bought out their family members and started Kaufmann’s Department Store. It was meant to distinguish them from the competing Kaufmann & Baer’s, run by their cousins. The progress photographs capture the rebuilding from July 19 through Nov. 8, 1913.
