It's been standing for over 175 years with more history rhan people realize. Organized in 1837, before the Cherokee were gone from this land, it was one of the first churches built by settlers in this part of Georgia. The building itself was erected in 1850, constructed from sandstone quarried nearby. After the Battle of Ringgold in November 1863, the church was turned into a hospital for wounded soldiers.
