The Joliet Police Department is one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the State of Illinois. There are currently approximately 270 sworn members, and approximately 110 civilian members of the department.

The Joliet Police Department is divided into four divisions: Administration, Operations, Investigations, and Technical Services. Each division is overseen by a Deputy Chief.

Joliet Police Tactical Unit - Investigate criminal offenses related to warrants, fugitives, burglaries, robberies, and other violent crime. Joliet Police Narcotics Unit - Investigate criminal activity related to narcotics offenses.

A majority of Joliet Police Department’s interactions with citizens are documented through police reports. These reports are generated by the Officers, Detectives, and Evidence Technicians at the time of the incident, and additional information may be added later as it becomes available.
