Division of Academy & Training - Illinois State Police
The Illinois State Police Academy provides training to Cadets, in-service education to Troopers and a basic curriculum to state, county and municipal agencies. The DAT is comprised of four bureaus, Training Development Bureau, Physical Skills Bureau, Recruitment and Substance Testing Bureau, and Logistics Bureau.
Academy Intent - Illinois State Police
The primary purpose of the Illinois State Police Academy is to prepare new officers for a career in law enforcement. The Academy provides training for Cadets (future ISP officers) and Recruits (future local law enforcement officers).

The Illinois State Police (ISP) has reinstituted the “Fast Track” Program which provides an opportunity for certified police officers to become Illinois State Troopers through participation in an accelerated training program.

Cadet Training - Illinois State Police
In the Illinois State Police’s (ISP) early days, training efforts were primarily devoted to pistol practice, “drill,” and motorcycle operation. Today, ISP Cadets must successfully complete 29 weeks of training which balances classroom instruction, physical skills training, and scenario-based training exercises.
