Time is running out to get a California Real ID. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will soon require people to have a federally approved document — such as a passport or a Real ID driver’s license — on hand for domestic plane travel.

With less than one week to go before the federal deadline to obtain a Real ID, less than a third of Pennsylvania drivers have gotten the upgraded identification cards. Wednesday is the final, really real Real ID deadline set by the Department of Homeland Security for people nationwide to have the enhanced identification card needed to board a domestic airline flight or gain access to certain federal properties like military bases.
