Thousands of racegoers filed into Aintree in their finest outfits to soak up the sun ahead of the famous Grand National horse race. Colourful costumes, fascinators and sharps suits have dazzled at the Merseyside racecourse, with the event expected to draw more than 150,000 people across its three days.
Modifications at Aintree continue to be made. Fences and hurdles are now painted white so they are more visible to horses, while the Grand National field is now capped at 34. John Pullin, Aintree Racecourse's clerk of the course, said: "People will notice that the padding and paint on fences and hurdles is now white, whereas it used to be orange.
