A brush fire that started on Maui over the weekend has resulted in evacuations and burned hundreds of acres. On June 15, Maui County stated that the Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) ordered residents “near Mile Markers 24 and 25 of Kahikinui” to evacuate.

The fire shut down Southwest 8th Street since Saturday afternoon and has since reopened. Meanwhile, Krome Avenue from US-27 to Tamiami Trail is still closed.

KAHIKINUI, Hawaii (Island News) – The second day of the ongoing Kahikinui brush fire has been mapped at approximately 330 acres on Monday, according to the Maui Fire Department (MFD).
