Google is trying out smart glasses again. At its Google I/O keynote address on Tuesday, Google showed off a product that was referred to simply as "Android XR glasses" in both the presentation and the accompanying blog post.

Apple intends to release a pair of smart glasses by late 2026. These glasses will be similar in function to Meta’s Ray-Ban models and the Android XR glasses recently unveiled by Google.

Android XR head Shahram Izadi talked to CNET about Google's big next steps for AI, AR and VR, and the company's partnerships with Samsung, Warby Parker and Xreal.
