SAN JOSE -- Alexander Wennberg and Philipp Kurashev each had a goal and an assist, and the San Jose Sharks scored three straight goals to open the first period of a 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils at SAP Center on Thursday.

Hughes scored his second goal of the game and team-best eighth of the season to send New Jersey on its longest winning streak since early in the 2022-23 season.

The New Jersey Devils have won seven straight games. They own the best record in the NHL at 7-1-0, and no one has more than Jersey’s 14 points.

Victor Olofsson had his first career NHL hat trick and added two assists, Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 8-4.

The New Jersey Devils began the season with quite a few injuries, which posed an initial threat to their blue line. Veteran defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic was sidelined due to a knee injury he sustained during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
