Risk of Asteroid 2024 YR4 impacting Earth reaches highest level in history
NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) officially raised the risk of 2024 YR4's collision in 2032 by 0.5 per cent overnight. Although it is a new high, it is still only roughly a one in 32 chance, which means that the rock is highly unlikely to hit the planet at all.

And if it hits home, it could cause an explosion equivalent to 500 atomic bombs, putting around 110 million lives at risk across eight of the world's most-population cities. This includes Bogotá, Abidjan, Lagos, Khartoum, Mumbai, Kolkata and Dhaka.
