Roger Goodell and the NFL cite the potential risk of injury on pushing plays as a significant factor in considering the old rule.

While a handful of NFL teams have supported the Green Bay Packers' proposal to ban the tush push, other teams have no issue with the play. Per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, one NFL general manager called out teams wanting to ban the play just because they can't defend it.

The vote to eliminate the "Tush Push" at the NFL owners meetings has been tabled to May, as the league is split on whether to ban the play made popular by the Eagles. Teams had an informal 16-16 vote on the "Tush Push," CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reports, needing 24 of 32 votes to ban the play (75% of the teams).

Murphy, the Green Bay Packers president and CEO, said the league will revisit the language of the ban and instead of banning the Tush Push specifically will propose prohibiting pushing of any ball carrier. Pushing a ball carrier was prohibited until around the 2004 season, when the league lifted the ban.

A proposal by the Detroit Lions impacting playoff seeding has been tabled by league owners. Detroit submitted a chance to allow wild card teams to be seeded higher than a division champion if the wild card team has a better regular-season record than one of the division champions.

Jones told Yahoo Sports he thinks a different factor comes into play when considering the proposed ban, and it may speak to what a revised rule change proposal might look like at next month's NFL meeting in Minneapolis.

Even if the data doesn’t support it, Sills’s adoption of a hair-on-fire posture (possibly at the nudging of those who want to kill the play, including the Commissioner) becomes a massive problem for the league if/when a serious injury happens during a tush-push play.
