Unfortunately, another calendar holiday in Texas may mean a dark and stormy day. While the start of Memorial Day weekend across the Lone Star State looks promising for cookouts and revelry, the back half of the three-day stretch comes with a tenuous-at-best weather forecast.

Storm surveys are underway following a night of severe weather across North Texas. As of Monday afternoon, at least one tornado has been confirmed near the City of Gordon, located about 66 miles west of Fort Worth. Gordon ISD canceled classes for the week due to extensive damage on campus from the storms.

Over the last 30+ years, tornadoes have touched down the most in our region between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Tornadoes are much more uncommon, but not impossible, in the early morning hours.
