Mayor Karen Bass put a curfew in place for a portion of the downtown area of Los Angeles when she declared a local emergency as a result of the escalating protests throughout the city. The curfew remained in place for a fourth night after the "No Kings" protests wrapped in L.

No Kings” demonstrations marched in hundreds of cities on Saturday to protest what organizers describe as President Donald Trump’s authoritarian agenda, including recent immigration raids that have rattled communities across the country.

The Los Angeles Police Department moved swiftly on Wednesday night to quell disorder stemming from anti-deportation protests, charging crowds on horses and firing “less lethal” munitions to clear protesters.

The curfew extends to sections of downtown Los Angeles where protests have turned into instances of vandalism and looting.

Protesters gathered in the area outside of the curfew zone, but there were still some confrontations when police moved to break up a crowd of several hundred people. An unlawful assembly was declared around 6:30 p.m. and according to the Los Angeles Police Department, 71 people were arrested on suspicion of failure to disperse.

California Governor Gavin Newsom accused President Donald Trump of misusing his power by mobilizing troops in Los Angeles and warned other states to prepare for similar unrest, as protests over immigration raids stretched into a fifth night and led to a curfew in parts of the city’s downtown.

Downtown Los Angeles is currently under curfew, impacting several live entertainment events as protests over ICE raids continue. The curfew was enacted by Mayor Karen Bass on June 10 and covers a one-square-mile are of downtown LA.
