Sen. Chris Van Hollen joined the family of Kilmar Abrego Garcia after he returned from El Salvador and pushed the administration to bring the man back to the U.S.

Van Hollen, 66, got his start in politics as a staffer for former Maryland U.S. Sen. Charles Mathias in the 1980s, going on to staff the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and, later, Maryland Gov. William Donald Schaefer.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) claimed that he changed Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s (D-MD) office plaque after the senator traveled to El Salvador and met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Salvadoran national deported by the Trump administration last month.
