On Wednesday, the nonprofit arts education agency Youth in Arts opened the annual program to the public at the YIA Gallery & Art Lab in Downtown San Rafael.

This year, nearly 110,000 teens submitted works of art to the competition. Only 2,800 students received national gold medals.
