Police used water cannon to tackle rioters during a fifth night of violence in Northern Ireland. Officers came under attack in Portadown last night. Petrol bombs, fireworks, masonry, bricks and bottles were thrown during the trouble. Calm was later restored.
Rioters clashed with police in Ballymena, and masked groups set fire to a recreation center in Larne, where families had been given temporary shelter.
Around 100 people turn up at an anti-racism protest in west Belfast, which passes off peacefully. The home of a family with three children is set on fire in Coleraine. Police in Portadown use water cannon to tackle rioters but the violence is again at a lower level than earlier in the week.
Police in Northern Ireland say 17 officers were injured during a second night of anti-immigrant violence in the town of Ballymena.
