As North Texas prepares for an extremely cold weekend, warming shelters will be available for those who need a place to stay. The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office issued a winter storm watch and an extreme cold watch ahead of the weather this weekend,
The Alliance's day shelter will remain open all week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with their winter overnight shelter open from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the end of March. Pets are welcome, allowing owners to stay connected to their furry friends.
The measure would require the State Department of Health to oversee homeless service providers across the state with a new program.
The state has capacity for 2.6 times the number of families it is accommodating – leaving 2,351 vacancies last month.

Even before this weekend's snow, the Pinpoint Weather 12 team says biting cold temperatures are on their way, with Friday's highs in the low to mid 30s and Saturday's single-digit morning lows made even colder by wind chills well below zero.
VTDigger/Vermont Public confirmed that seven extreme cold weather shelter locations will be open over the weekend. Most are part of a state-funded network of overflow shelters that activate when temperatures fall into the negatives as an attempt to save lives.
