WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday in favor of Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip in his bid to challenge his conviction for a 1997 murder-for-hire plot and granted him a new trial.

The wife of an Oklahoma man whose murder conviction and death penalty were thrown out by the Supreme Court says the decision is “an answered prayer.”

The Supreme Court ordered that an Oklahoma man convicted of murder, Richard Glossip, who has been scheduled for execution nine times, must now receive a new trial.

The justices heard arguments in October in a case that produced a rare alliance in which lawyers for Glossip and the state argued that the high court should overturn Glossip’s conviction and death sentence because he did not get a fair trial.
