The world’s happiest country has managed to keep its No. 1 ranking for eight years running. The picture in the United States isn’t so rosy.

That country was Finland, and you can read all about why it’s yet again done so well here. The UN-sponsored World Happiness Report, which assesses GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, freedom, social support, generosity and perceptions of corruption, produces a comprehensive ranking of 147 countries – check out the top 50 below.

For the eighth year in a row, Finland has been named the happiest country in the world, while the United States hits a new low.
