The 58th MLK Birthday Convocation was held Friday morning at Jackson State University just days before Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.

After President Donald Trump slashed free admission to national parks on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, California state parks will offer free admission at more than 200 state parks over the upcoming holiday.

The symposium’s keynote Memorial Lecture will take place at 10 a.m. in Hill Auditorium and will feature Donzaleigh Abernathy – actress, author, civil rights activist, and goddaughter of Dr. King – alongside Derrick Johnson, the 19th president and CEO of the NAACP.

Three men received awards from Douglas County and the city of Omaha on Friday.
