A nighttime crash during the week of Christmas is now causing major traffic backups every afternoon on Interstate 79.

A portion of Interstate 79 is shut down after a crash in Allegheny County Friday morning.According to officials, a crash has shut down the northbound lanes of I-79 at the Warrendale interchange in Marshall Township.

Noah Haswell, Beaver County Radio News (Allegheny County, PA) PennDOT District 11 announced that tomorrow, weather permitting, single-lane restrictions on Interstate 79 in Robinson and Kennedy townships of Allegheny County will occur.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 79 were closed Tuesday morning due to rocks spilling into the roadway from the hillside. According to a Washington County 911 supervisor, emergency crews were called at about 7:20 a.

Officials in Washington County said rocks came off the hillside and onto the road, causing a total shutdown of I-79's Northbound lanes at the Canonsburg exit.
