Storms that pounded the Chicago area Wednesday left a path of destruction and devastation in Gary, Indiana — ripping roofs of houses and even a school. A tornado is suspected to have been to blame for some of the damage in Gary.

A tornado that touched down in Gary, Indiana amid severe weather Wednesday left major destruction in its path, including at Frankie Woods McCullough Academy where classes were canceled for the reminder of the week after the school suffered ‘substantial damage’ and the gymnasium roof was nearly torn off.

Severe storms Wednesday night left an elementary school in Gary, Indiana without part of its roof. Some classrooms also were damaged, and the school will be closed the rest of this week.
