Polo was a tropical storm in the North Pacific Ocean early Monday Mexico Pacific Time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Polo is the 16th named storm to form in the Eastern Pacific in 2026.

Tropical Storm Fay is currently in the Atlantic with 65 mph winds, moving westward. It's unlikely to strengthen into a hurricane due to strong vertical wind shear and dry air, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Polo strengthened off Mexico's Pacific coast into a hurricane ​on Monday and is forecast to rapidly intensify into ‌a major storm, threatening floods, dangerous surf and strong wind gusts in coastal states and near major beach resorts.

"Although the cyclone remains far from Baja California Sur now, its projected path [could bring] it closer to the state."
