CBC News visited Taiwan’s Kinmen islands, which are just a few kilometres across the bay from the Chinese city of Xiamen. The islands have been on the frontline of hostilities between China and Taiwan for more than seven decades.

US President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are set to meet in Busan amid escalating trade tariffs, tech restrictions, and geopolitical friction.

Earlier Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump and Xi are expected to strike a deal on the tariff. The U.S. could cut the 20 percent fentanyl-related tariff in half if Beijing cracks down on the export of chemicals that can be used to produce fentanyl, the WSJ reports, citing people familiar with the talks.
