After nearly 11 hours of debate, the Texas House approved early Thursday a controversial bill that would provide eligible families with public funds to help pay for private school tuition. The school choice bill was passed in an 85-63 vote – two were absent.

The Texas House voted this week to use taxpayer money to send students to private schools. Republican leaders in the Senate plan to recommend that the Senate accept the House's changes to the bill, speeding up the process to get the bill to the governor's desk.
