Robbie Brewer, a veteran short track racer in the Carolinas, died Saturday night after a crash while racing in the Sportsman division at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. He was 53.

A longtime racer at Bowman Gray Stadium has died after suffering a medical emergency on the track. Track officials say that 53-year-old Robbie Brewer was taken to a local hospital after he suffered an “on-track medical incident” during Saturday night’s event at Bowman Gray that caused him to crash.

WXII's crew said he was removed during the sportsman race after a direct hit with the wall in turn four, following a restart on lap 16.
