The Office of the Attorney General came to a $7.4 billion settlement with the Sackler family and their company, Purdue Pharma, over their actions leading up to the opioid crisis, which has killed several hundreds of thousands of people in the last two decades.

Several US states have reached a $7.4 billion settlement with the Sackler family and their pharmaceutical company Purdue over the opioid crisis that has ravaged the lives of millions of Americans, officials said Thursday.

“The Sackler family and Purdue Pharma are responsible for fueling the opioid crisis, which has devastated Vermont communities and touched virtually every family,” said Attorney General Clark. “While this settlement is a huge victory, it will never bring back the countless lives lost and relationships destroyed by this epidemic.”
