Islam, 36, has been hailed since his death as a doting father, a generous neighbor and a shining example of the best of the NYPD. An immigrant from Bangladesh, he was a four-year veteran of the force, and a married father of two young boys. His wife is due with their third child next month. Islam will be laid to rest in New Jersey.

Goodell told Mike Tirico during a pregame interview on NBC that he attended the Thursday funeral of New York police officer Didarul Islam, one of the victims of the shooting. Islam is the father of two with a third child on the way, and Goodell paid tribute to him saying Islam “gave his life to protect others.”
