Two Boston Celtics alumni have been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their alleged ties to illegal mafia-run gambling schemes.
CBS News reports that Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups are both facing charges in an illegal betting case that led to arrests around the country.
The sweeping, multipart federal gambling investigation led to the arrests of Rozier, Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and more than 30 other individuals. The NBA placed Rozier and Billups on immediate leave soon after the arrests, with the league saying that it was reviewing the indictments.
Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier, and Damon Jones were taken into custody Thursday in connection with alleged illegal gambling operations dating back to 2019.
Terry Rozier was arrested by the FBI on Thursday morning, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The former Boston Celtics guard, who currently plays for the Miami Heat, sports betting gambling probe, was one of numerous arrests made for taking part in an illegal sports betting probe.

Chauncey Billups’ future with the Portland Trail Blazers is precarious at best following his arrest Thursday for allegedly participating in rigged poker games. The Blazers and the NBA placed Billups on leave and assistant coach Tiago Splitter has been named interim head coach.
Billups took some time off from basketball before beginning his coaching career in 2020. He first was hired by one of his former teams the Clippers to work as an assistant under Tyronn Lue. He was only in Los Angeles for one season before the Trail Blazers hired him.
