Following the collapse of an old bridge over the Indrayani river in Pune, which resulted in four deaths, former minister Ravindra Chavan is demanding an investigation into why a sanctioned replacement bridge was not constructed.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the iron pedestrian bridge on the Indrayani River in Pune that collapsed, killing four persons, had been declared dangerous by the district collector, and warning boards had been put up at the site.

The 32-year-old iron pedestrian bridge on the Indrayani river had reportedly been declared unsafe. It collapsed on Sunday afternoon in Pune's Maval tehsil, prima facie due to crowding by tourists who ignored the warning board at the spot, PTI reported.
