SUGAR LAND — Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña began his rehab assignment Tuesday night with Triple-A Sugar Land. Peña, batting second as the Space Cowboys' designated hitter in an 8-5 loss to Tacoma, was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in four plate appearances. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has reported that the Astros are making a pursuit of Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez, who has long been regarded as one of the most likely Miami players to potentially be dealt before July 31.

In their necessary hunt for a third solid starting pitcher, the Astros could land an underrated option from the Twin Cities.
