State leaders and family are urging a full investigation into Norfolk sailor Angelina Resendiz’s death, questioning the Navy’s response and transparency.

Angelina Resendiz vanished from her barracks at Naval Station Norfolk the morning of Thursday, May 29. Nearly two weeks later, her body was recovered behind an elementary school in Norfolk.

Culinary Specialist Seaman Angelina Petra Resendiz, 21, was last seen May 29 at her barracks on Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.

The dead body that was found in the Broad Creek neighborhood is confirmed to be Naval Seaman Angelina Resendiz, according to a statement released from the family.

Navy investigators and local police said they have recovered a body nine miles from a Navy base in Virginia and are awaiting test results to determine whether it is a sailor who has been missing since May.
